From Game Development to Product Development: The Career Story of Rufus

How did you end up at NiniX?

Rufus: I studied for a bachelor's degree in Electronics and ICT, followed by a bachelor's in Game Development, just out of interest. After my studies, I was looking for a job, which turned out to be more difficult than expected. Through Vital, a friend who also works here, I heard about this position. Since I had a technical background, stepping into product development seemed interesting to me.

What attracted you to this job?

Rufus: I missed working in a lab. Game development is mostly software-oriented, but I wanted to work hands-on again with electronics, designing, and testing. At NiniX, I could do just that!

How was your first period at the company?

Rufus: Everything went pretty fast. Of course, there were obstacles, like learning to work with new tools and methods, but I learned a lot. The combination of practical work and design immediately appealed to me.

What does your average workday look like?

Rufus: That depends on the phase of a project. In the beginning, I mainly work in the lab on prototypes: soldering, testing, and making adjustments. Then comes a design phase where I draw PCB layouts and program software. Sometimes I spend weeks in the lab, and other times I work at the computer for long periods. That variety keeps it interesting.

What projects have you worked on?

Rufus: One of the most interesting projects was for a company that makes incubators. They were looking for a way to more accurately predict when an egg would hatch to reduce chick mortality. I worked on the hardware and sensor calibration to make this possible. It’s great to contribute to an innovative, tangible product.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Rufus: The process from idea to product. Developing a concept, testing it, and refining it until it actually works. That creative and technical process continues to fascinate me.

How do you see yourself developing further?

Rufus: I want to specialize further in electronics and product development. For now, I'm still learning a lot, but eventually, I’d love to become an expert in a specific domain.
