Corrosion monitoring sensor for HVAC installations
NiniX Technologies co-developed the Risycor corrosion monitor with Resus and produces it in-house. The sensor continuously measures the corrosion rate inside heating and cooling installations. Operators can detect metal degradation early and plan maintenance before leaks, efficiency loss or system failure occur.
Corrosion inside closed heating and cooling systems
Internal corrosion in pipes and heat exchangers cannot be seen from the outside. When it becomes visible as stuck valves, a clogged boiler or a leak, the damage has already been done. The sensor itself sits in the system water. It is exposed to corrosive chemicals, scale deposits, large temperature fluctuations and high system pressure, and it has to measure reliably under those conditions over long periods.
Continuous corrosion measurement with a reference coupon
The probe ends in a thin iron coupon placed directly in the water flow. The oxidation of this coupon is representative of the uniform corrosion in the system. The sensor measures the coupon's mass loss with an electromagnetic principle comparable to that of a proximity switch. The logger records the corrosion rate over time.
The sensor electronics are protected against the aggressive internal environment of the installation.
When the corrosion rate exceeds an adjustable limit, the Risycor gives an alarm, including through a volt-free contact for connection to building management systems. The data can be read out over USB and PC software, or remotely through a cloud dashboard.
From reactive repair to planned maintenance
Operators see the corrosion rate and how it changes over time, and they are warned when values become unacceptable. Maintenance and component replacement can then be scheduled in advance instead of after a failure.
