Wireless and IoT solutions for connected products

Devices no longer operate in isolation. Sensors collect data, wireless networks transmit it, and cloud platforms turn it into information that users can act on. This brings new requirements for products: reliable wireless communication, long battery life, secure cloud integration and intelligent data processing.

NiniX Technologies develops new connected products and upgrades existing products with wireless and IoT functionality. We cover the complete chain, from the electronics, embedded software and edge AI in the device to cloud integration, data analysis and user applications.

Scope

From device to user application

From sensor node to actionable information

Big data only creates value when it is collected, analysed and presented in an understandable way. Our IoT solutions process data from the device to the cloud and present the results in clear applications, so users receive the information they need without unnecessary complexity.

Wireless connectivity designed into the product

Reliable wireless communication starts with the hardware. We design the electronics and antenna of the device as one integrated whole, so that range, reliability and energy consumption are optimised for the application.

For battery-powered devices, advanced power management is essential. By combining low-power hardware design with efficient embedded software, we develop devices that operate for long periods on a single battery.

Optimised for the application

  • Range
  • Reliability
  • Energy consumption

Wireless technologies

We select the wireless technology that best fits the range, data volume and energy requirements of each application, including:

  • LoRa
  • Sigfox
  • 4G / cellular
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth

Zero-configuration networking allows devices to connect to the network without manual setup.

Software and data

Beyond the device itself, we develop the software and data infrastructure behind it:

  • Embedded software
  • Edge AI: machine learning on the device
  • Computer and smartphone applications
  • Microsoft Azure cloud computing
  • Data warehouse development
  • Machine learning and pattern recognition

Edge AI: intelligence in the device itself

Not all data needs to travel to the cloud. With edge AI, machine learning models run directly on the device, so sensor data is analysed where it is measured. The device sends only the result, such as an event, an anomaly or a classification, instead of a continuous stream of raw data.

This reduces the amount of data that has to be transmitted, saves energy on battery-powered devices and allows the product to respond immediately, even when the wireless connection is temporarily unavailable.

Why process data on the device

  • Less data to transmit
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Real-time response
  • Keeps working without a connection

Example: cloud-based corrosion monitoring

For Resus, we developed a cloud-based dashboard for corrosion sensors. Measurement data from the sensors is stored and analysed in the cloud, and presented in a dashboard showing corrosion rate and temperature over time, together with alarms and sensor status.

Read more about this project in our article on structural health monitoring, and about how smart sensors and edge computing are applied in industry in our article on smart sensors.

Frequently asked questions

Which wireless technologies does NiniX work with?

NiniX develops products with LoRa, Sigfox, 4G/cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication, and selects the technology based on the range, data volume and energy requirements of the application.

Can NiniX add IoT functionality to an existing product?

Yes. NiniX develops new connected products and also upgrades existing products with wireless communication, cloud integration and data processing.

Does NiniX develop edge AI applications?

Yes. NiniX runs machine learning models directly on the device, so data is analysed locally and only relevant results are transmitted. This saves bandwidth and energy and enables real-time response.

How does NiniX achieve long battery life in IoT devices?

By combining low-power hardware design with advanced power management in the embedded software, battery-powered devices can operate for long periods on a single battery.

Which cloud platform does NiniX use?

NiniX develops cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure, including data warehouse development and data analysis with machine learning and pattern recognition.

Why choose NiniX for wireless and IoT?

At NiniX, hardware, firmware and wireless connectivity are developed under one roof, so every part of your IoT solution works together. Our experience with sensors for demanding environments ensures reliable operation and long battery life, even in the field. From prototype to series production, everything stays in-house in Bruges.
