Automotive-grade transmission sensors, developed and produced in-house
NiniX Technologies develops and produces sensor modules for gearbox and dual clutch transmissions, including Hall-effect position sensors, a three-fold PT1000 temperature sensor and speed sensors. The modules give the transmission control unit the data it needs to shift smoothly, limit wear and prevent overheating, over the full lifetime of the vehicle.
Operating conditions inside the transmission
A transmission control unit can only shift correctly when it knows the exact gear position, rotational speed and operating temperature at every moment. The sensors that deliver this data are mounted inside the transmission. They are exposed to temperatures up to 150 °C, continuous vibration and direct contact with hot oil and coolant, for 15 years or more. Standard sensor electronics are not designed for this combination of thermal, mechanical and chemical stress.
Sensor design matched to the transmission environment
NiniX develops a range of sensor modules for gearbox and dual clutch transmissions: speed, temperature, Hall position and pressure sensors, and combined sensor modules. Hall-effect position sensors detect the gear position without contact, so there is no mechanical wear in the measurement. A three-fold PT1000 temperature sensor module measures the temperature at several locations with a reaction time of 1 second, protected by a coating selected for long-term resistance to transmission fluids.
Each module is developed according to the customer's requirement specification. Materials, mechanical design, electrical circuit, software, interconnection and packaging are optimised for the conditions inside the transmission.
From prototype to IATF 16949 series production
The sensor modules are produced in series in NiniX's own production facility, following IATF 16949 certified processes, the quality management standard of the automotive industry. Because development and production take place within the same organisation, design decisions are validated against production from the first prototype onwards.
Reliable data over the full vehicle lifetime
The control unit receives accurate position, speed and temperature data, which it uses to optimise shifting behaviour, reduce wear on the transmission and prevent overheating. The sensor modules are supplied to first-tier German and North American automotive suppliers and are used in premium German, Italian and British sports cars.
